Propolis for a sore throat

There's a reason bees have been revered for centuries especially in Egypt. Bee symbols appeared in heiroglyphics, scrolls and jewellery. There is a long history of alchemical and herbal use of bee products to sustain health and longevity. Propolis is used by the bees to seal their hive and to provide protection. The high level of medicinal compounds found in propolis can provide us protection too.

Sore throats can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection. Propolis contains antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory components which can help alleviate irritation that comes with a sore throat. Because it has a high level of amino acids as well as bioflavonoids that strengthen the blood vessels and capillaries, it also supports the immune system . It’s a natural source of vitamin B-complex as well as vitamins C, and E.

Propolis spray comes in a handy little bottle that is easy to keep with you. You may prefer to find one that has a spearmint or mint flavour as this will help dull the very strong earthy taste. Propolis can also be purchased as a tincture, in capsules or an extract with a dropper.

Bees are amazing creatures and are highly intelligent. They dance from flower to flower, pollinating and impregnate the seeds of nature resulting in a flourish of colour. Of course, it is always best to choose organic or sustainably produced products because many farming practices are harmful to bees. Given the decline in bee populations over recent years, this is so very important. Additionally, bee farming practices that use chemical sprays create a less than satisfactory product.

Note: if you have allergies to bees or bee products please check with a practitioner before using.

Choose wisely. Live vibrantly.
